Peeves is a poltergeist residing at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Unlike ghosts, who are imprints of deceased individuals, Peeves is a spirit of disorder and chaos, seemingly existing as a permanent, mischievous presence within the castle.

His origins are unknown, but he is believed to have been around for centuries, causing trouble for students and staff alike. He delights in playing pranks, creating messes, and generally disrupting the peace. He is often described as a squat figure with a wide mouth and mischievous eyes.

While not malicious in the true sense, Peeves is a significant nuisance. He is largely uncontrollable and impervious to most forms of discipline, though he shows a grudging respect for authority figures who can effectively stand up to him, such as Dumbledore and certain Head Students. He also demonstrates a surprising loyalty to Hogwarts in times of crisis, even taking direction from Fred and George Weasley during the Battle of Hogwarts.
